You have 30 days to respond

Handle an employee SAR
without expensive lawyers

Just received a Subject Access Request from an ex-employee? SAR Studio guides UK businesses through the entire process. Step by step, AI-assisted, at a fraction of the cost.

Free to join. No spam. UK businesses only.

Under UK GDPR, you must respond within 30 days. Miss the deadline and you risk an ICO complaint, investigation, and fines. The clock is already running.

The problem

The existing options are slow, expensive, and built for someone else

Law firms charge £750 to £2,000 per SAR and may put a junior on it who doesn't deliver on time. Enterprise tools like OneTrust are built for large compliance teams, not a 20-person company dealing with its first disgruntled ex-employee. ICO guidance is 124 pages long.

⏱️

The 30-day clock panics everyone

Most small businesses have no process. When the SAR arrives, it's all hands on deck and it still might not get done right.

📧

Email trawls take days

Searching Gmail, Slack, HR systems and shared drives for one person's data across years of communication is an enormous task.

✂️

Redaction is terrifying

Include too much and you've leaked someone else's data. Include too little and you're non-compliant. The line is genuinely unclear.

📦

Packaging and delivery is a mess

How do you securely send hundreds of redacted documents? What goes in the cover letter? What audit trail do you need?

Scott Roberts — Founder of SAR Studio
Why I built this

I handled two employee SARs myself. The second time I tried to use lawyers. They quoted thousands and still didn't deliver.

I'm Scott Roberts, a CTO and engineering leader with over a decade building B2B SaaS products. I led ISO 27001 certification to zero non-conformities and have dealt with GDPR compliance hands-on throughout my career.

When we received our first employee SAR, I had to figure it out myself: the email trawl, the exemptions, the redaction, the packaging. When the second one arrived, I tried to hand it to a law firm. They quoted thousands, assigned a junior, and didn't complete it in time. I ended up doing it myself again, this time using AI.

SAR Studio is the tool I wished existed. A guided, AI-assisted process that walks any UK business through an employee SAR from receipt to compliant delivery. No DPO needed. No lawyer. No 124-page ICO guide.

How it works

Six steps. Fully guided.
No prior knowledge needed.

01

Triage

Tell us about the request. We set the deadline, assess complexity, and tell you exactly what to do next.

02

Search

We tell you exactly where to look: email, Slack, HR system, Drive. Right search terms and scope guidance included.

03

Review

AI flags what's relevant, what's exempt, and what needs human judgment. No more guessing about third-party data.

04

Redact

Upload your documents. AI handles redaction of third-party names and sensitive information. You review and confirm.

05

Package

We generate the response letter, bundle everything correctly, and create a full audit trail.

06

Deliver

Secure, compliant delivery to the requester. Deadline met. ICO-ready documentation if you ever need it.

Pricing

A fraction of what lawyers charge.

Most employee SARs cost £750 to £2,000 when handled by a law firm, often by a junior on a tight deadline. SAR Studio puts you in control at a price that doesn't need board approval.
